Hunt Apparel PANTS & SHORTS Base Layer Bottoms

Best Use: Base Layer

Best For: Mid-Weight Fleece Base Layer

Boosted by XLANCE®, the all-new Vital S3 is our most advanced fleece base layer to date. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Peloton 97, the Vital S3 delivers upgraded advantages with an improved fit and a more advanced fabric. The full-length leg zippers and above the boot design allow you to easily add or shed layers in changing weather conditions without removing your boots and outer layer pant.

Its ultra-soft brushed fleece interior provides a comfortable next-to-skin feel with exceptional moisture-wicking and quick-drying performance. It keeps you dry and comfortable whether you’re locked in glassing for hours or pushing hard to the next ridge — especially in cold to frigid conditions where a standard base layer falls short.

XLANCE brings entirely new performance to hunting apparel: an advanced polyolefin-based stretch yarn with built-in resistance to sweat, chemicals, heat, ozone, and UVA/UVB radiation. This delivers long-lasting elasticity and garment durability while staying incredibly light. It overcomes the typical pitfalls of spandex and elastane—excess weight, bacterial odor retention, slow drying, and loss of shape over time.

Unlike the aggressive snap-back of traditional elastane, XLANCE provides gentle, low-force stretch that's noticeably more comfortable and fatigue-free during dynamic movement, yet it maintains excellent recovery for season-after-season reliability.

Best For: Mid-Weight Base Layer

Boosted by XLANCE®, the all-new Vital S2 is our most comfortable mid-weight synthetic base layer bottom to date. With a lightweight 140 g/m² fabric, it delivers a soft next-to-skin feel and exceptional moisture-wicking and quick-drying performance—ideal for cold conditions and high-output ascents. Its minimalistic design also makes it perfect for sleeping in and for bridging the gap on colder days when the Attack Pant isn’t quite warm enough, yet the soft-shell Guide PRO Pant feels too warm. It’s ideally worn on hunts when the zip-off feature found in our other base-layer bottoms is not needed.

Best Use: Frigid Conditions, Low-Level Activity

Built for the coldest conditions when a typical thermal bottom just won’t cut it, Vital PRO answers with body-mapped insulation for targeted warmth strategically paired with single-layer paneling for added breathability. Vital PRO’s hybrid construction is built from a 4-way stretch blended polyester with a peached soft-touch finish. Housed between two layers of material, the insulated sections leverage a layer of 80-gram synthetic insulation with high-stretch and rapid-recovery qualities for non-binding articulation.

This ultra-warm, insulated thermal bottom keeps warmth close to your core, wicks moisture, dries quickly, and remains odor-free for all-day performance. The added insulation also creates a thermal break from frozen ground while seated. Whether you’re hunting big game, whitetail, or waterfowl, the Vital PRO base layer system is ideal for freezing temperatures with low activity levels.

Developed in New Zealand, Nuyarn technology has revolutionized the Merino wool market. Taking the twist out of the yarn has produced a fabric with higher stretch and recovery, better moisture management, and greater warmth. It is stronger than the average Merino wool on the market, yet boasts the same natural odor resistance and comfort.

KUIU's ULTRA Merino 145 is a lightweight, incredibly comfortable, and durable blend of wool and nylon providing a next to skin or layering option for the highly active hunter. Itch-free, moisture wicking, and naturally odor resistant, the ultra fine 17.5 micron Merino wool takes the edge off in cool conditions, while the full length leg zippers and above the boot design allow you to easily add or shed layers in changing weather conditions without removing your boots and outer layer pant.

Best Use: Whitetail & Waterfowl

The full-leg zip design allows for added heat release, ventilation and easy on and off without removing your boots. The PRO Merino is a great choice for the hunters needing a versatile hardwearing base layer bottom that is useful in a wide range of conditions.

The dual-layer knit construction positions 17.5-micron Nuyarn Merino next-to-skin with a quick drying, durable polyester eyelet outer face. The Nuyarn wicks moisture away from the skin and it passes through to the surface of the Polyester. The Polyester distributes the moisture over its surface, while the eyelet construction speeds the process and encourages airflow within the fabric.

This moisture management is a mechanical process, and results is a piece that absorbs, disperses, and evaporates moisture 4x faster than pure merino or comparable weight blends.
